Mark Reynolds is a Terra Nova resident who works in Security. He came on the Fifth Pilgrimage.

Biography[]

Before Terra Nova[]

When Reynolds was young, he wanted to be an accountant on the moon and would wear his grandfather's rebreather, hide under a table and add things on a calculator.

At Terra Nova[]

Reynolds came in the Fifth Pilgrimage, and was assigned to Terra Nova Security. He met Maddy Shannon when she arrived at Terra Nova and he seems to be interested in her. He is afraid of Maddy's dad.

Events[]

When the Tenth Pilgrimage arrived in the colony, Reynolds escorted the Shannon family to their new home. In "Instinct" he took a group of new pilgrims outside the fence for a lesson in jungle survival.

Reynolds posed as a guard for the Shannon children when a swarm of pterosaurs attacked Terra Nova. Later, he had dinner with the Shannon family as part of his courting of Maddy. When Maddy's parents were missing in "What Remains", he went with her to talk to Lt. Washington about the situation. Reynolds was threatened by Taylor, who had partially lost his memory, believing he was still in a war.

In "Nightfall", Reynolds and Maddy snuck away from the colony to have a picnic and after a meteor caused an electromagnetic pulse and their rover was disabled, they were forced to attempt to walk back to Terra Nova but it started to grow dark. In order to avoid being attacked or eaten, they had to cover themselves with stink leaves and take refuge in a tree all night.

Reynolds was at the Portal Terminus when the Eleventh Pilgrimage began to arrive, escorting pilgrims out of the way. After the Terminus was destroyed and the Phoenix Group took control of Terra Nova, Reynolds became part of Taylor's camp out in the jungle. He found Jim Shannon at the rendezvous point and took him back to their camp to meet Taylor. Reynolds was on guard duty when the Shannon family arrived at their camp and was recalled. He and Maddy snuck off to make out before being stumbled onto by Jim who excused himself and left. Reynolds impersonated a Phoenix soldier and drove a container to the Terminus with Jim Shannon inside.

Personality[]

He seems to be rough but protective, perfectly military, yet still young and impulsive. He is initially romantic, sweet, sensitive and understanding, especially towards Maddy, who he loves very much. Proven to be good with kids, he would often help Maddy babysit Zoe.

Relationships[]

Mark shows interest in Maddy Shannon by being protective of her. His feelings also are shown to be mutual. In "The Runaway", Mark declares his intentions for Maddy and asks permission to court her. In "Nightfall" Mark kisses Maddy in a tree when she asked him to because she was afraid she was going to die without ever kissing anyone. In "Now You See Me", he admitted to Mr. Shannon that he wanted to eventually marry her. In "Resistance" Mark and Maddy go to a secluded spot in Taylor's hideout camp deep in the jungle to be alone and kiss passionately.

It is mentioned in "Bylaw" that Mark was friends with Ken Foster. It is assumed they were good friends because Mark angrily told Maddy that whoever killed Foster should get "banished like they deserve", and Mark was one of the men Jim Shannon questioned at Boylan's Bar.

Trivia[]

  • In a deleted scene of "Genesis" Mark reveals to Jim Shannon that he is one of the Sixers and that "if you knew the truth about the Sixth Pilgrimage, you would understand why some around here are on their side."
  • In a deleted scene of "Genesis", Mark watches over Maddy and Zoe after their parents went out to look for Josh and the teens who were trapped in a Sixer vehicle being attacked by Slashers. In this cut scene Maddy makes him some coffee, and he's surprised by how "handling" she is with the kitchen island because she had just arrived in the colony. She then says it's self-explanatory how the water heating works and starts explaining how the solar panels store energy. She stops herself and apologizes for sounding know-it-all, and he says he "kind of like it."
