— Drake to Alvarez shortly before the latter was killed by a slasher in “Genesis: Part 2”
Alvarez was a muscular black man. He had short, black hair and brown eyes. During his appearance on the show, he wore clothes that appeared well-worn (not unlike the other Sixers). Alvarez was clad in multiple layers of seemingly light and loose clothing.
Alvarez was a hired gun who was brought to Terra Nova on the sixth pilgrimage via the rigged lottery to work for Mira, Lucas and their employers. In 2147, the Sixers (Alvarez included) left the colony because Taylor had discovered their true agenda. Following that, they had to stay in the jungle.
On September 27th, 2149, the Sixers sent a two-vehicle convoy to negotiate the release of Carter. Alvarez was among them. The convoy was attacked by two dinosaurs, but they managed to get inside the colony. Once there, Alvarez was aggressive toward Taylor. After a brief confrontation between the Sixers and Terra Novans, Mira and Taylor reached an agreement, exchanging meteoric iron for Carter and medicine.
On the way back to their camp, Alvarez and Drake spotted a Terra Novan rover parked near a river not far from the Snakehead Falls. Drake tried to steal the power cell from the vehicle while Alvarez stood watch. He urged Drake to hurry because he saw movement in the vegetation. After Drake took out the battery, an acceraptor slashed and killed Alvarez. Eventually, Alvarez was most likely devoured by the dinosaur (see Creation and Development).
Creation and DevelopmentEdit
In the original script for the pilot episode of Terra Nova, the Sixers did not exist, and there was no mention of Alvarez or anyone similar to him. The character was created when the pilot was rewritten.
A shot of Alvarez’s corpse being dragged away by a dinosaur (while Drake was heading back to their rhino) was supposed to be shown after his demise. Eventually, it was not included in the episode, but the scene appeared in an official trailer. This shot explains why Alvarez’s body was gone when Josh, Skye and her housemates returned to their rover.
Another deleted scene showed that Alvarez’s lower arm got separated from the rest of his body. The arm was floating down the river and reached the vehicles after the teenagers had arrived. Tasha was the first to notice it, and she screamed in panic, alerting the others to it. The scene was, however, changed in the final version of the episode—instead of finding his arm, the teenagers were alarmed by an acceraptor’s roar.
